As Time Goes By

I love that song. It's a really nice reminder that some things in life never change.

But, the other side of the song's story is that most of life is one change after another!

Things that looked so permanent at the time, become totally different realities a little later. Change is very subtle, and it is persistent.

I can remember when I was a young guy, just as if it was yesterday - can't you? And yet, here we are - an older version of ourselves - we've changed.

It was just a moment ago when I was a school kid drawing pictures of the Mitsubishi "Zero" airplane. That plane was made in Japan when they were our enemy in the 1940's. As time went by, I bought a car made by Mitsubishi.

WWII brought so much destruction to Japan. The cities that were destroyed by Atomic bombs were in total ruins. There were those who said they   would be uninhabitable and could not be rebuilt for ages.

Now I drive a Mazda Miata that was built in Hiroshima. How weird is that!

That war was to be followed by another war. The world had vowed that there should be no more wars. The UN was created to ensure that the world would live in peaceful coexistence. When the Communists attacked their neighbors in South Korea, the free world responded. The capital city of Seoul, as I saw it, was in pretty bad shape.

                   Look at it                         now

The old adage, "time heals all wounds" seems to be so. Physicists tell us that the only constant in the physical world is the speed of light. I think that you may agree with me that the other constant in life is change itself.
As time goes by, everything will change.
