Packaging

I took a model airplane kit to the UPS store the other day. I was a bit concerned about their ability to wrap such a delicate object. The soft balsa wood parts were very fragile. I asked them if they were able to do a wrap like that - no wrinkles, no tears and no snags. I was assured that they could wrap anything.

After I left, I got to thinking. Could the UPS wrappers handle wrapping an object that is really complicated? How about if the object is soft, delicate and is actually GROWING as it's being wrapped? Oddly, the wrapping is the OBJECT ITSELF, and with a very complicated design. Oh yes, all the complex wrapping would have  to be done in the dark.

OK, that wouldn't be fair for UPS. After all, it would take a miracle to do something like that. And yet, it's done every minute of every day. From now on, every time I see a flower bud, I will think of the really difficult wrapping it takes - done in the dark - with no wrinkles and no mistakes. Now that would be a really great job of packaging - right? Here are a few of those wrapped objects - with their miracles showing.

A Matter of Time

When I retired about 25 years ago, I wrote my first book, a kind of family history I wanted to leave my children. It's title, "Inner Dialogue"  (the sharing of my thoughts).

The title I had planned for that book was, "There's Enough Time After all". I was so thrilled with the idea of having all day, everyday, to do whatever I wanted. I had enough time to do so many of the things that I had been putting off for years. There was now time to go back to school and take courses on subjects I didn't know anything about, to practice calligraphy, learn to tap dance, to write more books and a whole list of other exciting adventures to be experienced. The list is still there.

Well, I'm no dummy - I can hear the clock ticking. I must admit that the ticking seems somehow louder - and faster! OK, I am definitely in my twilight years, so I realize that there may not be enough time to do everything still left on my list. Of course, I'll keep pursuing those things, but I need to adopt methods of saving some time.

A few of my books are already available on Kindle (Amazon). I have others that have been in a state of repose for a few years. Most are only half done, so I will give their completion my highest priority. My current project is to revise my Anna Maria Island book. I hope to have it on Kindle by year's end. I will then go on to the remaining books and then back to my list of things to do, other than to write books.
